June
June is a bustling month in the garden. With summer in full swing, now is the time to make sure you're getting the most out of your outdoor space. From herbs to vegetables to flowers, here's what you can start planting this month:
Start Indoors
Late Summer Salad Greens
As your early spring salad greens begin to bolt, start a new batch of seeds indoors for transplanting later. This will provide a continuous harvest of fresh greens into the late summer.
Broccoli & Cabbage
Start winter broccoli and cabbage indoors now. They'll be ready to transplant out in the autumn for a winter harvest.
Sow Outdoors
Successional Sowing
Keep sowing fast-growing crops like radishes, lettuce, and other salad greens for a continuous harvest throughout the summer.
BeansÂ
If you didn't sow beans in May, there's still time to get them in the ground in early June. Pole beans and bush beans will both produce a great summer crop.
Carrots and Beets
Continue sowing root crops like carrots and beets. They can be sown in succession for a continuous harvest.
Herbs
Hardy herbs such as chives, dill, and cilantro can still be sown directly outdoors.
Summer Bulbs
It's your last chance to plant summer-flowering bulbs. If you haven't done so yet, get them in the ground early this month.
Remember, all gardening activities in June are dependent on the climate and weather conditions in your specific area. Always seek local advice if you're unsure, as your local garden centers or agricultural extension services can provide specific guidance.
